Before setting up Zarafa with Drod Tunstall, Richard
studied Business and Media at college. He began work in the
Media department at McCann Erickson before switching to account management,
running national and international accounts in a variety of business
sectors in Manchester and London.
When not working on Zarafa business, Richard practises and teaches Tae Kwon Do; the teaching theme continues as occasional guest lecturer for advertising courses at MMU and Leeds University. He loves to cook – and even claims to be quite good at it – particularly whilst listening to music from Zappa to Arcade Fire. He is married to a Nederlander and speaks Dutch as do his two children. An alternative career option to advertising is that of Rock ‘n’ Roll guitar hero or Blues guitar legend – there’s still time?
After art school Drod worked for twenty years in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and London ad agencies before creating Zarafa with Richard Wilson. Away from Zarafa, Drod exhibits (and sometimes sells) artwork in galleries throughout the northwest.
An avid fan of satire and social comment, Drod is usually seen reading anything from the likes of Clive James, Will Self, Private Eye or anyone who can raise a smile. Drod has been a guest speaker at several design seminars and mentors undergraduates on a regular basis. A former trustee of The Citadel theatre in St Helens Drod loves Shakespeare, poetry and panto too! Regular interests and activities include tennis, fell walking, cycling and at least 30 minutes of yoga everyday. Drod’s wife Jeanette and his two daughters Emily and Victoria are all designers and artists working in different industries. Drod’s ambition is to keep learning new things, stay healthy and enjoy life.
